10-day Convective History
This product plots the positions of air parcels in the POSIDON region at
the given altitude that have been influenced by convection in the past 10 days.
It also plots the locations of the convection and trajectories between
the convection and the influenced air parcels.
Cloud top altitudes up to 4 days ahead of the current date are derived from
GFS forecast convective rainfall and GFS high cloud top pressures.
Cloud top altitudes over the Langley Pacific region on the current date
are derived from global TRMM rainfall, LARC Pacific brightness temperatures,
GFS temperature profiles, and GFS tropopause temperatures and pressures.
Outside of this region, cloud top altitudes on the currene date are derived from
GFS forecast convective rainfall and GFS high cloud top pressures.
Cloud top altitudes as late as ~2 days before the current date are estimated
using global TRMM rainfall, global brightness temperatures,
GFS temperature profiles, and GFS tropopause temperatures and pressures.
