This product plots the positions of air parcels in the DCOTSS region at the given altitude that have been influenced by convection in the past 7 days. It also plots the locations of the convection and trajectories between the convection and the influenced air parcels.
Cloud top altitudes up to ~1.5 to 2 days before the current date are estimated using global TRMM/GPM rainfall, global brightness temperatures, GFS temperature profiles, and GFS tropopause temperatures and pressures.
Cloud top altitudes from ~1.5 days before the current date to ~6 hours before the current time are derived from LARC cloud products.
Cloud top altitudes from ~6 hours before the current time up to ~3 days ahead of the current date are derived from GFS forecast convective rainfall and GFS high cloud top pressures.
The 4 sets of plots (current day, day +1, day +2, day +3) are available by 3 AM Pacific time each morning.
The file name convention is as follows: "dcotss_(yymmddhh)_NMC_50_53_58_cldhist_traj_(alt)kft.pdf"
For example, the file name convention for plots of the trajectories launched on the current date on June 9, 2020 at 18Z is as follows:
